In light of recent events, the Writer's Ink team hopes to use our platform to bridge gaps in educational resources and promote equity in all of our work. In our efforts to expand our reach to underserved communities, we are holding a writing competition for high school students who qualify for free/reduced lunch.
Calling high school students who qualify for free/reduced lunch and/or have been economically impacted by COVID-19! The first WINK Equity Initiative Writing Contest is now accepting submissions. Tips!
-
Focus on using descriptive language. Add details about the characters, setting (where it takes place), and the environment. Show and don’t tell!
-
Use your imagination! Tell us stories that make us happy, sad, fearful, excited, etc. Take us along an adventure. Write stories that you would want to read.
-
Don’t try to retell a story you’ve read. For example, don’t just rewrite Harry Potter in your own words. Be original and creative.
Have fun and good luck!
